A Study on Generalized Dermatitis Associated with Malassezia over Growth in Five Cats
نویسنده
چکیده
The report deals with the five clinical cases of generalized dermatitis associated with Malassezia overgrowth in cats presented to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Jigjiga University, Ethiopia. Elevated numbers of yeasts were observed in lesional skin by cytology and culture. Skin lesions occurred on the face, ventral neck, abdomen and ear canals and were characterized by some degree of alopecia, erythema and crusting. In most cases, pruritus was intense. The species M. pachydermatis was systematically isolated.

Background and Aim: Malassezia is a lipophilic and dimorphic fungus which has different species. Some of them can be found as natural flora on the skin and in some conditions may cause seborrheic dermatitis. The aim of this study was to identify Malassezia species associated with seborrheic dermatitis in Iranian patients, using PCR-RFLP.Methods: In this study out of 79 patients with seborrheic ...
متن کاملIdentification of Malassezia Species Isolated from Patients with Seborrheic Dermatitis Using PCR-RFLP Method in Arak, Iran
Abstract Background and Objective: Malassezia that is a part of normal flora is lipophilic yeast involved in a variety of skin diseases such as seborrheic dermatitis, pityriasis versicolor, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Seborrheic dermatitis affects most often the sebaceous-gland-rich areas of skin such as face, scalp, and parts of the upper trunk. Dandruff is a mild variant of seborrheic de...

A 5-year-old rabbit with generalized scaling is presented. Multiple skin scrapings and acetate tape impressions were negative for mites and Malassezia. Culture for dermatophytes was also negative. Skin biopsies showed similarities with sebaceous adenitis described in rabbits (absence of sebaceous glands, perifollicular lymphocytic infiltrate at the level of the absent sebaceous glands, lymphocy...
متن کاملPrevalence of Malassezia species isolated from skin of patients with seborrheic dermatitis reffered to Tonekabon clinics by PCR- Sequencing method
Abstract Background and Objective: Malassezia yeast is considered lipophilic normal flora of human skin and warm-blooded vertebrates. This fungus is an opportunistic pathogen in causing seborrheic dermatitis. In this study, the yeasts isolated from the crust of the patients with seborrheic dermatitis were identified by PCR-Sequencing. Material and Methods: In this study, 65 ...
متن کاملDetermination of Malassezia species isolated from patients with Pityriasis Versicolor using PCR-restriction enzyme method
Background and aim: Malassezia species are part of the resident skin flora of humans. These yeasts are associated with various superficial diseases, including seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, dandruff, and psoriasis. Various DNA-based molecular methods have been recently described to differentiate species of Malassezia. In this survey, a simple, reliable, and cost effective PCR-b...
